<hi style=afpcap>The Douglas C-133 Cargomaster was tailored to meet the requirement for a trubo prop engined strategic freighter capable of ferrying outsized loads over intercontinental range. The C-133A featured hinged rear loading doors and a ramp which could be lowered to enable large, bulky cargo such as Intercontinental Ballistic Missiles to be accommodated with ease. A total of 35 C-133As were built before production switched to the C-133B model with 15 being produced. This latter version featured rear clam shell doors and slightly more powerful engines enabling a higher gross weight. The 1607th Air Transport Wing (later 436th Military Airlift Wing) at Dover AFB, Delaware operated the C-133A, while the C-133Bs were flown by the 1501st ATW (later 60th MAW) at Travis AFB, California. The Cargomaster was replaced by the C-5 Galaxy, with the C-133s being placed in storage commencing in 1971. </hi>
